Worcester YouthBuild’s class of 2015 is learning a variety of building and work readiness skills by helping to renovate a 2-family home located at 3 Benefit Terrace in the Main South neighborhood of Worcester.

The property is owned by non-profit, Matthew 25, whose mission is to empower low-income families in Worcester and Boston by providing housing and food assistance. Upon completion of the gut renovation, expected by the end of the year, the units will be rented to two low-income families.

Worcester YouthBuild (operated by Training Resources of America, Inc.) is also partnering with Saint-Gobain Corporation, one of the world’s largest building materials companies, through a national partnership with YouthBuild USA in support of YouthBuild’s Green Initiative and YouthBuild programs in four communities where Saint-Gobain has business concentrations, including Worcester, MA, Schenectady N.Y., Akron, Ohio, and Philadelphia, PA. This is the fourth year of the partnership with funding from the Saint-Gobain Corporation Foundation and support from the Saint-Gobain family of companies in the form of products, employee volunteerism, and technical expertise.

YouthBuild students are making great progress at the worksite. Under the guidance of their Worksite Supervisor/ Trainer, Gerald Siplas and Assistant Trainer, Wilson Brito (a graduate of last years’ YouthBuild Program), students have begun installing CertainTeed siding and have fire blocked the entire house. They have replaced all the windows and helped build dormers on the third floor. Their goal is to finish one of the units by the end of this summer and continue to make a positive impact in the Worcester community.

Matthew 25 is also helping the students by providing hot lunches on a daily basis.
