On Wednesday, July 10, 2019, Worcester YouthBuild, operated by Training Resources of America, Inc., Worcester Common Ground, and Saint-Gobain, one of the world’s largest building materials companies and manufacturer of innovative material solutions, teamed up to host a volunteer day to install products from Saint-Gobain’s largest construction materials company, CertainTeed in a new home being built at 20 Merrick Street in Worcester.

Worcester YouthBuild students worked alongside local Saint-Gobain employees to install CertainTeed gypsum in the 900 square foot home. The project is aiming to achieve USGBC’s LEED Platinum certification. Upon completion, the home will be sold to a low-income, first-time homebuyer. A second home is scheduled to be built next door at 24 Merrick Street in the fall.

Following the groundbreaking of this project in October 2018, the home marks the first ground-up construction project to be completed in Worcester under Saint-Gobain’s national partnership with YouthBuild USA.

Distinguished guests, including City Manager Ed Augustus, and key project partners began the event with brief remarks where they discussed the history of the project and recognized the Worcester YouthBuild students who are learning carpentry skills while working toward attaining their high school equivalency credentials.

Following the opening remarks, twenty (20) Saint-Gobain employees participated in two volunteer shifts. It was a great opportunity for both the students and volunteers to get to know each other while giving back to their community.
