On Thursday, July 21st, 2022, ten (10) students graduated from the Quincy YouthBuild Program, operated by Training Resources of America, Inc. (TRA). The COVID-19 friendly ceremony took place at the TRA’s Quincy’s office, at 1515 Hancock St #205, Quincy, MA 02169.

The graduates, ages 16 to 24, included: Caleb Araujo of Weymouth (18), Devon Bailey of Weymouth (19), Joshua Bonasoro of Weymouth (18), Nathan Campbell of Hingham (19), Bryant Cureton of Holbrook (16), Joel Deery of Quincy (19), Matthew Ford of Holbrook (17), Jahkeen Gooding of Holbrook (16), Gabrielle Rice of Boston (24), and John Shaw of Quincy (19).

Quincy YouthBuild provides comprehensive training to young people ages 16 to 24 that are not in school, have not received a high school diploma or High School Equivalency, or are basic skills deficient, and demonstrate a willingness to work hard for personal and community change.

Students received instruction in High School Equivalency Test (HiSET) or Penn Foster preparation, self-esteem, life, work readiness, and leadership skills, including community service opportunities.

In addition to working towards attaining their High School Equivalency credentials, students earned OSHA Safety, and Home Builder’s Institute Pre-Apprenticeship Construction Training (HBI-PACT – Carpentry Skills) certificates. This class has worked on construction projects with NeighborWorks Housing Solutions, St. Marks Church, Father Bills & MainSpring, and at the USS Quincy.

TRA President & CEO, Kim Radcliffe, Program Manager, Mike McGee, and their instructors joined family, friends, and staff in celebrating the young people’s many accomplishments.

According to graduate Caleb Araujo who delivered the Student Address to his classmates, “The YouthBuild program put me on a path I was struggling to get on. They supported me through the process of getting and accomplishing my goal of getting a high school equivalency diploma. I am so glad I was able to participate in this program. The next decisions in your lives are going to be the most important. Wish you all the best!”
