Adult Basic Education (ABE) is designed to meet the specific educational needs of adult students who have limited basic reading, language and math skills and/or limited English proficiency. The ABE program provides instruction at all levels including Literacy, Pre-ASE (Adult Secondary Education) and ASE/High School Equivalency Test (HiSET) Preparation. The ASE program offers focused instruction to prepare students to pass all official HiSET tests including Mathematics, Language Arts - Reading, Language Arts - Writing, Social Studies, and Science. HiSET practice tests are administered periodically to determine HiSET readiness. Both the ABE and HiSET Prep programs combine stimulating group lessons with an individualized, self-paced, competency-based curriculum that meets the specific needs of students. Our open entry program is guided by the Massachusetts ABE Curriculum Frameworks and integrates a wide range of instructional materials, teaching methodologies and educational technologies including a large library of academic videos and computer assisted instruction in order to be responsive to a variety of learning styles. All instruction is designed around themes related to employment, technology, family, health, community and social needs as defined by our students. Students are provided with comfortable learning environments, small class sizes, dedicated teachers, educational counseling and daily access to computers and other technology.
