TRADE Adjustment Assistance (TAA) funding was created to provide benefits and services to workers who become unemployed due to the impact of international trade. TAA helps laid-off workers gain skills necessary to secure employment and advance in the workplace.
In Brockton, TRA is currently providing Adult Basic Education (ABE) and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) to laid-off workers from companies qualified to receive TAA funding. The program is designed to meet the specific educational needs of adult students who have limited basic reading, language and math skills and/or limited English proficiency. It features TRA’s individualized, self-paced, open entry/open exit, competency-based basic skills instructional system which integrates varied materials, methods and technologies to meet varying student needs. The program is enhanced by inter-disciplinary group activities that encourage cooperative learning and problem solving. ESOL students are also provided extensive opportunities to improve their speaking capabilities and to learn from one another in a positive environment through participation in group conversation classes.
TRA has the capability of providing TAA ABE/ESOL programming at all of its locations.
