English for Speakers of Other Languages assists adult students who have limited English proficiency. The program provides instruction at all levels ranging from those who have no ability in English to students who plan to enter college or training. The program combines stimulating group lessons with an individualized, self-paced, competency-based curriculum that meets the specific needs of students. Emphasis in all classes is on the development of oral and written communications skills including listening, speaking, reading, writing, vocabulary, punctuation and grammar. All ESOL lessons are developed around a theme such as communication, consumer skills, community resources, housing, transportation, health, technology and employability so that students are able to navigate essential systems of American life. Our open entry program is guided by the Massachusetts ESOL Curriculum Frameworks and integrates a wide range of instructional materials, teaching methodologies and educational technologies including videos and computer assisted instruction in order to be responsive to a variety of learning styles.
