Quincy Trivia:

  • Quincy is the birthplace of the second and sixth U.S. Presidents, John Adams and his son, John Quincy Adams, as well as Statesman, John Hancock.
  • The first Dunkin Donuts was opened in 1950 in Quincy by William Rosenberg.
  • Quincy is the location of Granite Railyway, the "first commercial railroad" in the United States which was built to carry granite from Quincy to a dock on the Neponset River in Milton. From there boats carried the heavy stone to Charlestown for construction of the Bunker Hill Monument.
  • Quincy is the birthplace of Howard Johnson's Restaurant Chain.
  • The first nuclear-powered surface vessel, USS Long Beach CG (N) 9, was launched at Quincy in 1961.


ACHIEVE! Youth Opportunity Program – Serves out-of-school youth between the ages of 16 and 24, providing Adult Basic Education/High School Equivalency Test (HiSET) preparation, customer service occupational skills training, resulting in a National Retail Federation certification, and more.

Employment Prep Program (CIES) - provides DTA eligible clients with short-term training to improve opportunities for job placement leading to self-sufficiency.

Young Parents – Provides a variety of services to pregnant and parenting out-of-school young people, aged 14-24, who have not achieved a high school diploma or its equivalent or who have a high school credential and are seeking to enroll in post-secondary education or training.

YouthBuild – Provides low-income, out-of-school youth, aged 16–24 with on-the-job, hands on construction skills training and High School Equivalency Test (HiSET) preparation.

Adult Basic Education – Meets the specific educational needs of adult students who have limited basic reading, language and math skills.

English for Speakers of Other Languages – Assists adult students who have limited English proficiency by meeting their specific educational needs.
